Various and sundry topics: sometimes serious, but often not; often political, sometimes not; sometimes provocative, usually not; usually humble, occasionally not; but always me.

...the melting of God.
The increasingly comprehensive understanding of the universe that science provides to humans is, for God, the equivalent of a bucket of water being thrown over the Wicked Witch of the West.
I'm an existentialist, a secular humanist, a sensualist, and an idealist.
My favorite magazine, hands down, is The New Yorker. My favorite comic strip is (was) Calvin & Hobbes. I love to laugh, but find I cry more as I get older.
Cursed with a grim awareness of the tremendous human suffering in the world, I'm deeply committed to doing something about it.
In 2002, I co-founded an organization dedicated to raising awareness of the issues presented by advanced nanotechnology: the benefits and dangers, and the possibilities for responsible use. In 2009, I became the managing director of the Institute for Ethics and Emerging Technologies.
During the last decade I've been privileged to share my thoughts on the societal implications of emerging technologies in speeches to groups all around the world, including England, Spain, Germany, Italy, Switzerland, Australia, New Zealand, and Brazil, as well as Canada and the USA.

I so hope that this does turn out to be the case... the melting away to nothing of god!
